Cousin Kris O'Hayre
I have connected with yet another cousin! Kris O'Hayre is connected through Veda Green who married a Roper. I am very excited about this connection. I do not have much info on the Ropers! I will have to let my Great Aunt Sue know about this - she might remember some of the Ropers. Every new connection is very exciting to me! We are all connected to each other somehow-we just have to figure out how!!!
Cousin Phil Green - Info on John R. Green
It's been a while since I posted........but this does not mean I haven't been busy researching!
I have connected with a new cousin! Phil Green, in Boaz, Alabama. He has been researching since the 1970’s, well, really since he was a young boy, but he says no one would ever tell him anything!
He has done a lot of work on the Greens, it was a joy to talk to him. Hopefully we can meet up in North West GA sometime.
He has sent me a map (snail mail) of where Lou Allen Green’s grave is located. Very exciting to be getting that information. He is connected to Leroy “Buck” Green, who was Lou Allen Green’s brother. Their father was Jeremiah Green. Somehow they are connected to Balis/Balous Green and John R. Green also. We have yet to figure that mystery out.
I have also emailed with Mitzi Soward, in Tennessee. She is connected though William Jasper Green, another one of Lou Allen Green’s brothers.

1st
To my wife Mary Green the entire property belonging to me at my death during her natural life.
2nd
At her death all land east of Scott Branch and north of Ellijay Road including home and outbuildings except 1 acre for graveyard and 1 acre for the benefit of the M.E. Church when repaired said acre lying joining and being west of graveyard and 1 acre deeded to J.N. Green where public well now is in forks of road, off of lot land number 43, 23rd district 2nd Section Gordon County shall belong to ____?____(Hean) (Harvey) M. Green on the following condition if he remains on said land and takes care of Mary Green his mother during her lifetime after my death.
3rd
At her death strip of land south of Ellijay Road, running to home of J.N. Green land including store house and barter house shall belong to John N. Green and Harvey M. Green.
4th
All other property notes and accounts on land and land lying west of Scott Branch at her Mary Green’s death, shall be equally divided between all legal heirs also fifty dollars from my estate to go to the rebuilding of M.E. Church on the one acre of land west of Graveyard donated for that purpose.
5th
Appointed sons, John N. and Harvey M. Green Executioners….this last day of November, 1899.

The Neals/Nails
The Neal family ties into the Green family by way of Millie Green, she married Elias Devers Neal, December 28th, 1884, in Gordon County, GA.
The Neal's are a very interesting bunch! Elias Devers Neal's father is Joseph D. Neal. Joseph was a JP I have discovered in Cherokee County, GA. His name shows up a lot in the Stiplins war of 1812 document (see earlier post).
This set of Neal's are descended from the Neal's that fought in the Battle of Kettle Creek (Second Picture down, Capt. Joseph Nail, Sr. and Ensign Joseph Nail, Jr.) in Wilkes County, GA. They were known as Nail's back then. Not sure why they changed it to Neal except for the way it might have sounded. I think it was originally Neal and then went to Nail and then back to Neal. Anyway this was a very important battle in Revolutionary war history. Reuben Nail also fought, he is believed to be Joseph Nail, Jr.'s brother.
Joseph Nail, Jr.'s cause of death was murder by gunshot. And no, he didn't die in the war. The Nails owned a trading post on Old Federal Road, now GA Hwy 51, near a creek which was later (and still is) known as Nails' Creek (Banks County, GA, originally Franklin County, GA). John Nail and Julian Nail, Joseph's brothers, eventually caught the man accused of murdering him, his name was Cormack Higgins. Eventually the brothers were both tried for murdering Cormack Higgins but were found not guilty in avenging their brothers death. This occurred in 1800 in Franklin County, GA, now Banks County.
A great quote from the Neal side of the family is from Mable Neal, she said "Your Great-Grandmother Devers was captured by the Indians when she was a young married woman and taken to Ball Ground, GA. They kept her blindfolded all the time and the Chief told her if she would talk he would make her his wife but she would not talk....to him. A group of white men rode into camp and jerked her up on a horse, and a young white boy about 16 years old. They took her back home." WOW. Talk about history. This info was obtained from Joseph Neal, Emory Neal's grandson in Augusta. He has a letter that Mabel wrote that contained this memory. How great is that!?!?!?!
Now you also know where the Devers middle names come from, Elizabeth Devers married Alexander Neal, Joseph Devers Neal's father. That's a whole new post!! Will save that for later!
I will post photos of the Neal's later and I have more info on them so I will post that later also!
